Transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) is a critically important cardiovascular imaging modality. The proximity of the esophagus to much of the heart and great vessels makes it an excellent ultrasonic window. TEE is commonly used to provide important qualitative and quantitative information regarding mitral regurgitation. The method has been useful for understanding the complicated anatomy of the mitral valve and its dynamism.
